What is an Eco Freako?

An Eco Freako is someone who recognizes there is an environmental crisis in the world today – the greatest crisis the modern world has ever seen – and intends to do anything he or she can to stop and reverse it.

An Eco Freako is someone who is tired of waiting for others to start the environmental revolution to save the planet. A Freako believes, “The environmental revolution starts with me!”

An Eco Freako is someone who doesn’t think it’s corny to say, “I want to save the planet.”

Eco Freakos aren’t afraid to be called tree-hugger, environmental loon, or whatever derogatory name corporate shills have come up with to make us seem like the crazy fringe while they wreak havoc on our planet. Bring the names on. We’re Freakos, after all, and we’re willing to wear our environmental passion on our sleeves.

Are Freakos a little ‘out there’? What does being an Eco Freako mean in practice?

No, in fact fighting to restore our environment while it teeters on the precipice of runaway climate change is literally the only sane response there is. Going about our lives as if we have no impact on our environment is what is crazy. We’re Freakos, but we aren’t crazy.

Does being an Eco Freako mean I have to be an extreme environmentalist by going off grid or building a hut in the wilderness and living off the land?

No, but if you want to do that knock yourself out. Eco Freakos realize we all need to live in this world. That means if you live in the city, continue to live in the city. If you live in the country, continue to do that.

We also realize getting to and from work might mean driving a gasoline fueled car, or going on a business trip might mean flying on a plane. We live in houses that are connected to the grid. We watch TV. We take hot showers. We will continue to live our lives in the modern world but we wish to do so more responsibly. We don’t measure our success by how extreme we can be compared to everyone else. Our competition is with ourselves. We don’t ask, “How can I be better than everyone else?” We ask, “How can I be better this year than I was last year?” We want everyone to be an Eco Freako and that means embracing everyone’s efforts no matter how great or small.
